Headline Help!
Jul/083
Have you ever wondered how some publications are such amazing sellers?
All you have to do is take a look at their headlines.
Check out the next Women’s Day, Women’s World, Cosmopolitan, or even the National Enquirer…These are “old school”…still in newspaper format…
However, they have some of the greatest headlines that catch women’s attention at the check-out line all over the world!
The next time you go through the check-out at your local grocery store, grab yourself a copy…
Read them…take note of your reaction…Learn…Write your own headlines that mirror these great ones using the keywords of your product or service…
Keep a swipe file, either online or offline, with the headlines you like the best…Use them when you are writing by changing the words to fit your topic!
Use these headlines as templates! They have done research, they are tried and true!
They capture your attention, relate to you as a reader by connecting with you through a problem or issue you may have, then they do a great job to convince you of what it is they want you to do or buy…
Great headline formulas!
You’re sure to figure out a winning headline!

Kimberly,
surprisingly, the print magazines as a source of inspiration for headlines are still not widely known.
It’s very surprising considering that most of us will read a magazine or newspaper at least a few times every month – even if it’s only while we stand in line at the supermarket checkout desk!
Magazines have been honing their skills in headline creation for a long time and frankly they do a better job than a lot of the so-called gurus out there.
I agree with you completely. They are a good source for your swipe file. You don’t even have to buy the magazines. Many dentists and doctors get rid of older magazines every so often and they’re happy for somebody to take them away.
Just because a magazine is a few months old doesn’t mean the headline is no good. In fact, if you collect them over a period of time you’ll see the same formula used over and over again.
As some people say, ‘there’s nothing new under the sun’.

Exactly… I collect all kinds of mags and visit magazine.com often just to keep up with the newest and hottest formulas, buzz words, and other effective marketing headline stuff. lol.
Shoot magazine copywriters are some of the best in the world, and the highest paid. Plus you get to learn from the mistakes and successes of companies that have put a ton of money into getting the ads right. You can learn a whole lot about creating great headlines just reading mag covers.
